Description

Completed in 1270, the Old-New Synagogue is the oldest functioning synagogue in Europe and one of Prague's earliest Gothic buildings. To enter, one must go down a few steps, as the street level of the city's Stare Mesto was raised in medieval times to protect against flooding. Men must cover their heads while inside (hats or paper yarmulkes are available at the entrance). This synagogue is one of the seven Jewish monuments that make up the Prague Jewish Museum, but it is not included in the general admission ticket.
